._TTT_BookshotA darkly tempting self-indulgent treat from Choc Lit!

‘Refreshing, funny and romantic, it’s like a breath of fresh sea air with a cast of terrific characters’, praises bestselling author Kate Harrison of Christine Stovell’s debut novel.
Based in a sleepy seaside town on the east coast, Turning The Tide tells the story of one woman’s desperate quest to keep her father’s boat yard afloat and prevent her beloved town from being invaded by outsiders. A London property developer sees it as his next big venture for a swanky ‘celeb’ type restaurant and new upmarket housing. Colourful locals and a few twists make this novel a real heart warming read.

SO-cover1A Lion Bar Hero from Choc Lit
Sue Moorcroft’s new novel is called Starting Over and will be published by Choc Lit on 30th November, 2009. To quote Katie Fforde, it’s ‘a delight to read, full of laughter and tears’.

Contemporary women’s fiction, Starting Over deals with the sort of issues that most of us have faced – moving on from a relationship, moving into a new area and getting to grips with why starting over’s turned into a habit. When Tess ‘starts over’ in a small Cambridgeshire village, things don’t go quite to plan.  And that’s mainly down to Miles, fun-loving and commitment-phobic, but charismatic company.  Lyn Vernham, Marketing Director at Choc Lit, believes it’s a story that will resonate with many women. She adds, ‘Sue is an accomplished writer and her story is a real page turner. Starting Over is the perfect addition to our Choc Lit selection!’

‘Jane Austen in the 21st Century’ - Praise or Profanity - Released 10 September 2009
November will see the release of a new BBC prime-time period drama - Jane Austen's Emma. Adapted in 4 weekly episodes by Sandy Welch of North and South fame and starring Romola Garai and Jonny Lee Miller, it's sure to start a fresh wave of Austen mania.

In anticipation of this, Choc Lit have commissioned an article on modernising Austen, a fresh angle to tie in with the BBC's release of Emma.

Extract:
It is a truth universally acknowledged that a beloved author in possession of a large following must never be tampered with. And yet here’s Juliet Archer, a relative unknown, on a mission to modernise all of the sacred Jane’s completed novels, and appeal to fans and non-fans alike.

This is by no means an original idea. Helen Fielding wrote Bridget Jones as a modern-day Lizzy Bennet; and even the super-talented Stephenie Meyer has admitted that Bella and Edward’s early relationship in Twilight was influenced by Pride and Prejudice. In effect, Austen’s novels seem to provide an elegant template for most romantic fiction authors, whether consciously or unconsciously.

.......Would Austen herself have approved of Archer’s tampering? Reviewers – including Joanna Trollope – are of the opinion that she would. And, as imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, I can think of no better tribute to the sacred Jane.

If you're planning to cover the BBC feature, and looking for material to use, we would be delighted to send you a complimentary copy of this article. Simply contact the press office for a copy.
